The long awaited Sauerbeck Family Drive-In opened on Friday night to a full lot of families.
The theatre in Lagrange, Kentucky has been under construction since April and cost $2 million to build.
“We’re real excited to be able to share this with the community,” owner Stephen Sauerbeck said.
Sauerbeck worked at a movie theatre as a teenager.
“Families get to come out here and have a community experience together, watching a movie, being in the outdoors, enjoying the nice weather, and having a lot of fun,” Sauerbeck said.
A double feature will run every night, hopefully until Thanksgiving as long as the weather is nice. Adult tickets cost $11 and kids can get in for $6.
The new theatre is just one of seven in the state.
“When I was younger we used to go as a family to the drive-ins and it was a lot of fun,” said Megan Jackson. “It brings up a lot of memories, but, they all closed down so it’s nice to have one so close to home.”
