One thousand tagged monarch butterflies will be released by the Louisville Zoo.

The zoo’s annual Flutter Fest coincides with the 1,600-mile annual monarch butterfly migration to Mexico, according to zoo officials.

People can watch the release virtually this year on the Louisville Zoo’s Facebook page on Sept. 19 from 3 to 4 p.m.

The celebration will include butterfly videos and activities for families to do at home.

People can also donate and receive butterfly themed items. For more information, click here.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Monarch Watch.
