NEWPORT, Ky. (DERBY CITY WEEKEND) - Newport Aquarium is one-upping Shark Week by celebrating the misunderstood, yet lovable creatures all summer long.
Shark Summer will run at Newport Aquarium until Sept. 11, according to the aquarium, allowing visitors to experience new exhibits and get up close and personal with dozens of sharks,
Guests are encouraged to face their fears and learn more about sharks and the role they play in ocean ecosystems.
New to this year’s Shark Summer is the Shark Nursery, featuring real shark eggs from several species. Guests can also touch some of the sharks in Shark Central, including Newport Aquarium’s new California horn shark.
Newport Aquarium said guests will also be able to cross over the top of a 385,000-gallon shark tank on the world’s first Shark Bridge.
“Sharks are one of the most intriguing creatures under the sea, yet one of the most misunderstood,” Kelly Sowers, General Curator at Newport Aquarium said. “Shark Summer helps to disprove myths about these finned friends by giving guests a new kind of access to them.”
The aquarium is open seven days a week; on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
