LIST: Road closures for the 2024 KDF Mini/Full Marathon

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Thousands of runners will hit the streets on Saturday, April 27, for the 51st annual Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon and 23rd annual Marathon.

The races will start simultaneously at 7 a.m. on Main Street, near Slugger Field, and then finish on Adams Street, just outside of the Lynn Family Stadium, the Official Finish Line for both the mini and Marathon. 2024 also marks the return of the full Marathon to Louisville’s South End.

Participants will run through numerous Louisville neighborhoods, experiencing the city. Runners will also pass through the infield of historic Churchill Downs.

Every participant will receive a rose after crossing the Finish Line, commemorating Kentucky’s largest day of road racing and celebrating the historic 150th running of the Kentucky Derby.

The Dick’s Sporting Goods Race Expo and Packet Pick-Up will be open at Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center on Thursday, April 25 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Late registration for runners is still available this week at the Expo on Thursday, April 25 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday, April 26 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Late registration for the miniMarathon is $135 and $150 for the Marathon.

Race preparations throughout the week:

Tuesday, April 23:

  • 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Volunteers will be marking the course. (To coordinate specific times and locations, please contact Chad Waggoner at 502-338-9479)

Wednesday, April 24:

  • Noon – 5 p.m.: Vendors begin their load-in at the Race Expo and Packet Pick-up at Freedom Hall in the Kentucky Exposition Center.
  • Volunteers continue marking the course

Thursday, April 25:

  • 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Vendors continue load-in at the Race Expo and Packet Pick-up in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center
  • 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Race Expo and Packet Pick-up opens in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
  • 10 a.m.: Finish Line Set-up begins at Lynn Family Stadium and will continue throughout the day.

Friday, April 26:

  • 9 a.m.: Finish Line Set-up continues at Lynn Family Stadium and Adams Street from Cabel to Campbell will be closed to traffic
  • 11 a.m. – 9 a.m.: Race Expo and Packet Pick-up in Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center

Saturday, April 27:

  • 6:45 a.m.: Call to the Post/National Anthem
  • 6:55 a.m.: Wheelchair Division starts on Main Street at Brook Street.
  • 7 a.m.: Both races start on Main Street at Brook Street.
  • 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m.: First finishers of Wheelchair Division and miniMarathoners expected to cross finish line.
