A Recipe to End Hunger raises funds, gathers community at 4th annual concert

Few things in life are more essential than food, but one in five children in the Louisville metro area–and thousands of families–have no idea where their next meal will come from.

A Recipe to End Hunger presented its fourth concert and fundraiser event at the The Grand in New Albany, Indiana on Sunday. Of the money raised, 100% of the funds go to fight local food insecurity across the community. The nonprofit has no paid staff and all of the work is done by volunteers.

The concert featured performances from local favorites Hush Harbor, Cover Me Badd and the Louisville Crashers. There was also a silent auction and face painting and games for the kids.

A Recipe to End Hunger was founded in October 2015 by WAVE 3 News Anchor Dawne Gee. The organization works to raise money to fund programs aimed at fighting hunger in the community. Research shows inadequate nutrition puts children at risk not only physically but emotionally, socially and even financially due to the cost of nutrition-related health problems.

Also in the works: The second edition of A Recipe to End Hunger Cookbook. The first edition featured recipes from 55 local restaurants and businesses and 66 recipes from local and national celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, Al Roker, Loni and Muhammad Ali and Dolly Parton. It became a best seller on Amazon.com.
