Blessing of the Keg kicks off St. Patrick’s Day Parade weekend

The Blessing of the Keg serves as the unofficial St. Patrick’s Day Parade weekend kickoff in Louisville.

Father Joe Fowler blessed a keg of Goodwood Bourbon Barrel Stout on Thursday night at the brewery in Nulu.

Goodwood bottled a special beer for the event called Blessed Fella.

After the keg was blessed the crowd headed down to O’Sheas on Baxter Avenue to tap it.

As many as 150 units are expected to march down Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road for the 46th Annual Ancient Order of Hibernian St. Patrick’s Parade, which is being held a week earlier than usual. In 2018, the parade drew a crowd of more than 100,000 people.

It starts at 3 p.m. Saturday at Broadway and Baxter and ends at Windsor Place.
