Boo at the Zoo returns for another pandemic-plagued Halloween season

Boo at the Zoo is back.

It’s been a popular event for families in Louisville for more than 40 years.

The Halloween-themed event has something unique at just about every turn, like characters coming to life from movies and books.

“Bring your camera,” Louisville Zoo spokeswoman Kyle Shepherd said, “because there’s going to be a photo op around every corner with your favorite storybook characters.”

Boo at the Zoo has been a popular event for families in Louisville for more than 40 years, and it’s back again this year.

Shepherd said patrons will be asked to take precautions.

“We do encourage you to wear a mask,” she said, “but there’s lots of social distancing options here at the zoo.”

Last year, the zoo was an outlet for families stuck in their houses as most of the city shut down, but being the outdoor space it is, people were able come and enjoy it safely.

It’s a similar situation this time around.

COVID-19 case numbers are actually a little higher than they were at this time last year.

The zoo said it’s reminded of last year, with people wanting to know when they could be part of the zoo again.

“People were just so thankful that they had the opportunity to be outside and be with each other in an open environment,” Shepherd said.

Boo at The Zoo runs until Oct. 30 (with some exceptions) on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets are available on the zoo’s website.
