The fourth annual BOWMANFEST was back at Bowman Field over the weekend.
BOWMANFEST featured rare vintage aircraft and warplanes from all over the United States, military vehicles and equipment, military memorabilia, along with past war educational exhibits.
The festival kicks off with a revamped race, the IPA 5K on the Runway. The racecourse is a fast, flat course that takes place almost entirely on the airfield. Runners received a commemorative medal and shirt along with a pancake breakfast, a beverage, and admission to the main event with their registration. Also, $5 from each race entry went to Kosair Charities and Home of the Innocents.
There was also the Bowman Bouncy Field, which included more than two acres of inflatables and the Mighty Titans Adventure Run and the Boomin’ on Bowman after-party, a free concert that took place on the airfield Saturday evening. Additionally, Kentucky’s first-ever “Rosie the Riveter” living rose garden was dedicated.
While many turned up for the event on a sunny Saturday, the rain didn’t stop many people from heading out to Bowman Field for all the fun on Sunday.
Event Director Pat Macdonald said it’s much more than just a fun weekend: “We do this so people – come out and have a great time.”
