A hit Broadway musical has begun its run at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
Tuesday night was opening night for “Dear Evan Hansen.”
The Tony Award-winning best musical follows teenager Evan Hansen, who gets wrapped up in a lie following the suicide of a classmate.
Cast members said the musical carries a very serious message.
“We have this painted picture of what other people are going through, (that) it always looks better,” said Jessica E. Sherman, who plays Heidi Hansen. “I think it couldn’t be more relevant now than ever before to that message of what you see behind that computer screen is fake.”
Added Steven Christopher Anthony, who plays the title character: “I think there’s something important about seeing imperfect people making mistakes and messing up and how to deal with them, and how to own up and how to help each others heal.”
“Dear Evan Hansen” will continue its run through Sunday.
The Kentucky Center announced that a ticket lottery started Wednesday for a shot at discounted tickets for the rest of the performances. Click here for more information on that.
