It’s a tradition that has been going on for 50 years. The Jeffersontown Gaslight Festival kicked off on Sunday.
On Monday, there is a golf scramble. Throughout the week, there will be several events from a 5K run to a parade and balloon glow. The gaslight festival weekend starts on Friday and runs through Sunday.
This year, organizers decided to make a policy change Friday and Saturday nights following a chaotic Saturday night at the Kentucky State Fair last month.
Gaslight officials are implementing something similar to keep those coming out to the festival safe.
“We are going to institute a teenager policy, I call it,” Jeffersontown Chamber of Commerce spokesman John Cosby said. “Under 18, after 7 p.m., we ask that an adult accompany those folks. But, still it’s not that we are trying to keep the teenagers away, we are trying to get them to bring people with them. I don’t think it will be a heavy-handed thing. They’ll just ask who are you with, and if you aren’t with someone after 7 p.m., the probably this isn’t the right place.”
The Jeffersontown Police Department and sheriff’s deputies who are always at the festival will help enforce the new policy.
