Goodfellas Pizzeria is coming to Louisville.
The owners of the Lexington pizza joint have long wanted to stretch their footprint westward, and one of them, Alex Coats, confirmed Tuesday that the deal is done.
Coats and business partner Eric Boggs tried to open at the corner of Baxter and Broadway, where a dilapidated, old gas station has sat dormant for years. That deal fell through last year, but Goodfellas will open just across the street at The Baxter, a mixed-use residential and commercial building.
“This one is happening,” Coats told Derby City Weekend on Tuesday. “We’re really excited.
“We’ve been wanting to be in Louisville forever. So many people from Louisville have been wanting us to come for years and years. We’ve had to be patient to find the right spot. The Highlands is such a neat neighborhood, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
Coats said that when he and Boggs were trying to open the first time at that corner, they met with the neighborhood association and got a good feeling.
“The people of the neighborhood have been very welcoming,” he said.
Coats added that in addition to selling their popular, New York-style pizza by the slice, the new Goodfellas location will offer indoor/outdoor seating, and will stay open until 3 a.m. on weekends.
Coats said he hopes the new location will be up and running by the end of the year.
