Foodies and taco lovers listen up! A new El Taco Luchador is set to open in downtown Louisville, Chef Fernando Martinez and the Ole Hospitality Group announced on Thursday.
The restaurant is set to open during the late summer or early fall at the corner of West Jefferson and South Fifth Streets. It will take over the space previously used by Zoë’s Kitchen.
“We’ve been looking for a great spot downtown and we finally find the right match,” Chef Martinez said. “We’re making some updates to give it the personality of the other locations. It will be our largest taqueria to yet at 2300 square feet. We’re going to be walkable from the Bourbon District, the Yum! Center and of course the new renovated convention center that is set to open soon. There’s so much great momentum.”
The popular taqueria was recognized in Southern Living’s “City Guide to Louisville”, and was named the top taco spot in the state by Yelp and Buzzfeed.
There are two other El Taco Luchador locations in Louisville, one on Baxter Avenue and the other on Meridian Avenue in St. Matthews.
El Taco Luchador serves over ten fresh, cooked-to-order tacos along with Mexican sandwiches called “tortas” as well as salads and sides like “Elote Callejeros,” grilled corn on the cob with mayo, cotija cheese and chile pequin and desserts like homemade churros.
An expansion is expected for the original 938 Baxter Avenue location, which opened in 2013, and a new restaurant is expected to open at the Stonybrook Village Center in Jeffersontown.
The restaurants are known for their brightly painted walls lined with the colorful signature masks of “Luchadores,” the famed wrestler-entertainers of Mexico.
