The Louisville Zoo has a new addition! A baby gray seal was born at the facility on Monday.
The first photos of the new arrival show the wide-eyed pup shortly after its birth.
Assistant Director of Conservation, Education and Collections Steve Taylor and Lead Glacier Run Keeper Drew Koch held a media briefing about the birth Monday afternoon. They have not yet confirmed its gender or weight, as they are letting the pup and its mother bond before examining it.
“The pup is the offspring of a pup born here in the 80s,” Taylor said. “What goes around comes around.”
He said the mother seal was pregnant for about 340 days.
The zoo plans to have a naming contest once they find out its gender.
