Newport Aquarium announced Friday a new exhibit that’s opening in spring 2020, titled “Shipwreck: Realm of the Eels”.
Guests will walk through the ruins of a sunken ship scattered across a sea floor. The ship will house a number of animals including eels, brightly colored fish, and crustaceans.
The themed area will host five different zones. Visitors will explore the Captain’s Quarters, a treasure chest, the cargo hold, the ship’s anchor and ropes and rigging. Each zone offers experiences that allow visitors to explore the ship where sea creatures interact.
“Shipwreck: Realm of the Eels” is one of the biggest developments in Newport Aquarium since it’s opening in 1999. The million-dollar investment transforms the old “Dangerous & Deadly” space into an open, immersive experience.
“We’re always listening to our guests to figure out what new adventures they want in their next visit,” Newport Aquarium Executive Director Eric Rose said. “To be able to create an artificial reef teeming with ocean life, thriving in a sunken ship is really going to wow them.”
From November 1st to December 31st, Newport Aquarium is offering “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” on Annual Passes to the Aquarium. These passes include entry to a VIP Passholder party for the opening of “Shipwreck: Realm of the Eels” in the spring.
