After remaining without a tenant for more than five years, a new restaurant will be moving into the vacant property on Waterfront Park next year.

Pig Beach BBQ, a New York City-based barbecue restaurant is planning to move into the building previously home to Doc’s Cantina and Tumbleweed.

The restaurant offers a signature menu of chef-driven barbecue items to the waterfront space, according to a release.

“Our dear friend Brook Smith, a fixture in the Louisville community, introduced us to Waterfront Park and we were immediately blown away by everything this space has to offer,” Pig Beach BBQ Partner Rob Shawger said in a release. “From the phenomenal views to its proximity to the amphitheater, ongoing events—it’s truly got it all.”

Pig Beach BBQ opened its first location in Brooklyn, New York in 2015 and was featured on the TODAY Show, Food Network, The New York Times and more.

The restaurant said it plans to open in time for Derby festivities in April of 2022.
