Places to spoil mom this Mother’s Day

Looking for a place to treat that special woman in your life on Mother’s Day? Well, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of Mother’s Day events happening around WAVE Country this year.

Mother’s Day, May 13, is a special day at Churchill Downs. Watch live racing with family while diving into the brunch menu in the Stakes Room or the Chef’s Table Buffet in one of Churchill Down’s many dining rooms. Reserved dining tickets start at $52. General Admission is free for moms accompanied by their child. 

Copper & Kings Distillery says “Mom Rocks!” Free hour-long distillery tours will be available for mothers on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13 on the hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The tours include a tasting and an orange carnation flower. Specialty cocktails will be available for purchase after the tour, including ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ sangria and the ‘Pink Lady.’ Book your tour hereMoms and children 10 and under get in for free. Butchertown Sodas will be available in lieu of spirits tastings for those under 21. 

Does your mom like to run? Race her to the finish line of the Louisville Mother’s Day 5K on Sunday. May 13. The race starts at the Big Four Lawn, winds along the river and ends at the back at the Lawn. (Editor’s Note: It might be a good idea to let mom win this race.) Find all race information here

Honor mom and give to a good cause at Mother’s Day Sweet Delight on Saturday, May 12 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will be held at Sts. Simon & Jude on Hazelwood Avenue. The event is a fundraiser for Doors to Hope which is an organization that opens learning opportunities, encourages community involvement, and engages in advocacy for women and immigrant families. You could always Drag Your Mother to Brunch at LeMoo. They are offering two special Drag shows on Sunday, May 13. As of April 20, only 12 seats remained for their 11 a.m. show and only 6 seats for their 1:30 a.m., so act fast! Request a reservation by emailing Tickets are $35 for the brunch buffet and entertainment. The Drag Brunch buffet food is separate from the Le Moo Brunch menu. Kaiju Bar is offering their Sunday brunch on Mother’s Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Osaka Snack Bar food truck will serve brunch food specials out front while Kaiju will have drink specials inside. Their drink specials are as follows:

  • $5 New Amsterdam Bloody Mary
  • $7 Kettle One Premium Bloody Mary

Captain’s Quarters will offer their traditional Mother’s Day Buffet service from 10:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Reservations are strongly suggested. Tickets are $32.95 per person.

Mothers of ALL kinds will be celebrated at the Louisville Zoo on May 13 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission will be free courtesy of the Ford Motor Company. Enjoy zookeeper talks while visiting some animal moms at the Zoo like western lowland gorilla Kweli, surrogate mom to Kindi, and grizzly bear Inga, mom to Otis and Rita! Explore what human and animal moms have in common as you visit exhibits throughout the Zoo.

Make mom a one-of-a-kind present at the Douglass Community Center during their Mother’s Day Ceramics class. The event takes place on May 12 at 5 p.m. and is open to any ages 12 and older. It is $10 per piece and no experience necessary. 

Louisville Salt Cave will be open from 12-4 p.m. for halotherapy and restorative yoga sessions. It’s a great way to de-stress, detoxify, spend time with the special people in your life or just give yourself a much-needed getaway. You can also pick up great gifts like salt lamps, scented candles, aromatherapy necklaces, bath salts or essential oils.

Shoney’s is offering moms a free slice of Strawberry Pie on Mother’s Day, continuing its annual tradition. To get the slice you must purchase the Mother’s Day All You Care To Eat Freshly Prepared Food Bar or entrée and it is available for dine-in only.

8UP is hosting a special brunch on Sunday. The sweet and savory specials will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A complimentary photo booth will also be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to capture the Mother’s Day fun. You’ll be able to print or digitally save the photos taken Sunday afternoon. Can’t make brunch? Well, 8UP is also offering dinner from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling (502) 631-4180.

MESA will celebrate moms with a hands-on cooking class with  Madeleine Dee of Fond on May 10 at 6 p.m. Pull out the hats and gloves for a mother and daughter afternoon tea and a three-plate light lunch on May 12 at noon.
