Looking for fun things do to during the month of August? Here's a list of events happening in and around the Derby City including the brand new Railbird Festival.
Love music, bourbon, and food? Then the Railbird Festival might be for you!
The Raconteurs and Hozier will headline the inaugural Railbird Festival at Keeneland on August 10th and 11th.
There will also be opportunities for attendees to tour Keeneland, learn betting basics, sit in on culinary demonstrations with renowned Kentucky chefs, and enjoy family-friendly activities.
From musicals to movies, the Iroquois Amphitheater has a plethora of events during the month of August.
It all begins on Friday, August 2nd with a free showing of Sweeney Todd. The movie is rated R so all children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The Nick Rodman Legacy Foundation is hosting a benefit concert on August 3rd from 6 to 11 PM.
On the following weekend, Iroquois Amphitheater is hosting the fourth annual Derby City Jazz Festival. The festival features Marion Meadows, Pieces of a Dream, Nick Colionne, Lin Rountree, Sheryl Rouse and more. This event is 21+.
The “Movies Under the Stars” series continues with a showing of Instant Family on Friday, August 16. This event is free and open to the entire family.
Louisville Zoo Events
The Louisville Zoo isn’t just about the animals (although they are the coolest and cutest part), there are many other events this month for you to enjoy.
Get ready for Derby City’s wildest workouts. Louisville Zoo has partnered with Flex Appeal to host several workout sessions this month including yoga, barre, and Zumba.
Friday Night Movies continues with a showing of Black Panther on August 9th from 6 to 10 PM. The Zoo Crew will provide free entertainment before the show.
Dive into tastings from wineries, local restaurants, and craft breweries while listening to amazing music and enjoying animal encounters at the Louisville Zoo’s Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too! The event takes place on August 24th from 5 to 9 PM. ALL guests must be 21 years or older and must bring a valid ID to the event. On Friday, August 2 at 10 a.m. a limited number of VIP tickets will be re-released for purchase.
Louisville Zombie Walk
It’s not Halloween yet but zombies are ready to roam the streets.
Last year, 42,000 people attended the Louisville Zombie Walk. This year, even more people are expected.
Zombies take over Bardstown Road on August 24th, plodding from Grinstead to Highland Avenue.
There will also be live music, costume contests, food and a zombie car show at the festival.
Firearms, toy guns painted to look like a firearm, metal knives or machetes are not allowed at the event.
The Moth at Headliners is now in its fourth season and is still going strong.
The Moth is a non-profit organization that features people telling true stories from their lives without notes or cheat sheets. StorySLAM, The Moth’s wildcard series, welcomes anyone to share a five-minute story onstage the last Tuesday of every month.
August’s theme is animals.
