Celebrating its 170th year, it’s older than even the Kentucky Derby.

The annual St. Joseph’s Picnic takes place on Frankfort Avenue on Saturday.

Friday brought the pre-picnic party, highlighted by a performance from local legends The Crashers.

WAVE 3 News’ Kaitlin Rust spoke to several attendees Friday night.

“The first thing I do is check my work schedule so I can tell them I’m going to be at the St. Joe’s Picnic,” said 16-year-old Crystal Fairfax, who added that she’s been coming to the event since she was a baby.

Her first goal every year is to try to win some cake.

“It’s fun watching everybody else win that have been here forever and are finally winning a cake after an hour,” she said. “My favorite is strawberry, and I can always manage to find a strawberry cake.”
