Just a day after it was announced that fans can pack into Churchill Downs for this year’s Kentucky Derby, the three biggest galas decided to cancel.
The Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala, the Unbridled Eve Derby Gala and the Trifecta Gala all made their announcements Friday.
“We’re navigating through unprecedented times, and we’ll miss seeing everyone in 2020,” said Tricia Barnstable Brown, one of the organizers of the Barnstable Brown party that draws A-list stars from sports and entertainment each year. “But we look forward to hosting them again in 2021.”
Unbridled Eve organizers said they plan to host an online auction and are considering the idea of a virtual gala.
For the last several years, WAVE 3 News’ Night at the Galas special has been must-watch television.
The Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Sept. 5, and will be open to fans at limited capacity. Churchill Downs officials made the announcement Thursday, and are still sorting out how they’ll configure seating and ticketing.
